Maldives visa requirements for Bangladeshi travellers.
Maldives Immigration grants tourist visas on arrival without prior visa approval, subject to entry clearance. This is visa on arrival, not unrestricted visa-free admission. Its current tourist page applies to foreign tourists and publishes no Bangladesh-specific exclusion. Bring the required itinerary and complete the free individual IMUGA declaration. [MV01–MV02]
Facts checked on
Position and scope
Maldives / মালদ্বীপ; ISO MV; Indian Ocean, South Asia; capital Malé. Authority: Maldives Immigration. Tourist stages ST015 and ST016. Paid work and business-meeting categories are outside this holiday guidance.
Visa category and eligibility
A Bangladesh tourist prepares entry evidence and seeks the tourist visa at the border, rather than purchasing an unneeded pre-approved tourist eVisa. IMUGA is a self-declaration, not the visa decision. Immigration still determines admissibility, and a full itinerary does not guarantee entry. Other-nationality restrictions must not be misreported as Bangladesh restrictions. [MV01–MV02]
Entry conditions and supporting evidence
The current Immigration page requires an MRZ passport/travel document with at least one month validity and rejects passports whose validity has merely been extended. It requires confirmed return travel, a prepaid confirmed booking at a registered facility and sufficient funds, or Immigration-approved sponsorship. Meet the next destination’s entry conditions too. Each minor needs an individual passport. Yellow-fever evidence is conditional on relevant travel origin/history; it is not a universal direct-from-Dhaka requirement. [MV01]
Document checklist
- Official requirement: Individual MRZ passport meeting the current validity rule; minors require their own passport. [MV01]
- Official requirement: Confirmed return itinerary, prepaid registered accommodation and sufficient funds, or approved sponsorship. [MV01]
- Official requirement: Individual free IMUGA declaration and next-destination entry documents where relevant. [MV01–MV02]
- Conditional: Yellow-fever certificate only for the relevant travel-history condition; sponsorship papers if using that route.
Application procedure
- Confirm passport suitability, registered prepaid accommodation, return journey and enough funds or approved sponsorship.
- Open official IMUGA, complete a separate declaration for each traveller within the applicable window and retain the QR.
- Present the passport, declaration and entry evidence on arrival; immigration decides visa/admission.
- Check the actual stay endorsement and arrange any extension through Immigration before expiry.
Official fees and processing
IMUGA submission is expressly free and requires no paid intermediary. The currently retrieved Immigration tourist page does not state an initial visa fee, fixed stay allocation or extension tariff. An older Tourism Ministry FAQ is indexed as a free thirty-day arrival visa but its underlying page returned 403 and contains obsolete declaration instructions. Its numerical visa claim is therefore not marked currently verified here. Confirm the current grant/extension terms with Immigration; hotel taxes, transfers and agency charges are separate. [MV01–MV04]
Validity stay and entry limits
The arrival endorsement determines the allowed stay; no advance approval window gives permission to stay indefinitely. Do not extend a holiday merely by changing the hotel booking. Obtain Immigration approval before any extension or overstay risk. Re-entry after another country is a fresh border assessment with updated itinerary and declaration.
Transit and multi-country travel
Immigration defines a transit traveller as someone continuing to another country without immigration clearance. A resort, guesthouse or Malé hotel stay is entry and needs tourist admission. Confirm actual airside transfer and baggage arrangements with the carrier. For ST016, Sri Lanka needs its own ETA; its passport threshold can be longer than the Maldives threshold, so plan the whole route. [MV01]
Documentation errors and refusal risks
General risks are an unregistered or unpaid accommodation booking, itinerary gaps, inadequate funds, passport problems and a declaration with wrong identity data. A QR confirmation does not guarantee admission. Do not apply for the tourist category to perform work; use the appropriate separate permission.
Practical preparation
Submit one IMUGA declaration per person, including children. The tourist page says within ninety-six hours before arrival; IMUGA phrases the window before the inbound flight. Submit within both windows, such as shortly before departure, and retain the QR. The outbound declaration requirement was removed from 15 August 2024; do not reuse an older both-directions checklist. [MV01–MV03]
Verification limits
Limit: The retrieved page does not publish a numerical initial stay or visa fee.
Limit: Underlying page returned 403; contains indexed obsolete COVID/declaration material. Not treated as current proof of stay/fee.
READY FOR REVIEW: current visa fee/standard initial stay and extension terms still require direct confirmation. The September 2026 Immigration entry checklist, free IMUGA, declaration timing and departure-declaration removal were directly read. Check current rules and the whole flight route again before departure.
Rules may change. Reconfirm with the official authority and airline before applying and departure. A visa does not guarantee boarding or border admission.

Questions
Asked at our desk.
Do I need a pre-approved tourist visa?
The official arrival route does not require advance tourist-visa approval, subject to entry conditions.
Is IMUGA a paid visa application?
No. It is a free self-declaration and does not replace the border decision.
Can I arrive with only an unpaid hotel reservation?
The current checklist specifies a prepaid confirmed booking at a registered facility unless using approved sponsorship.
Does my child need a separate passport and declaration?
Yes. Both requirements are stated in the current Immigration guidance.
Is a departure IMUGA declaration still required?
The official notice removed it from 15 August 2024; inbound declarations remain.
Can I use the Maldives passport minimum for Sri Lanka too?
